Now Everyone Sing!

Every Friday I serve at our soup kitchen at my church.  It is a great ministry to help out in because you get to see the immediate effect. People come hungry, people eat, enjoy fellowship with others and people leave filled and happy. Today was a little different.  Recently, our tables have been filling with more and more kids.  Now, if you know me, you will know that I always have a little tribe surrounding me. So, when I see this- my heart just sings. Most of these kids were at the  soup kitchen last week and they reminded me about our youth band that I had told them about.  By chance, Vinny our youth band guitarist/singer/allthingsmusic teen was there today.  After asking him, he sat right down with the kids and started playing his guitar.  There were no singers but the kids giggled at him playing and enjoyed listening to live music on the spot.

Kids are powerful influencers in their home.  Each one of them were asking me to ask their Moms if they could stay with us and listen to music and asked about our services on Sunday.  WAIT! What just happened?  Why would kids want to be at a church willingly?  I think its quite simple really-by Vinny's example, he made the church approachable by just taking time and sitting with the kids... By taking a half hour of his time and strumming his guitar Vinny showed God's love working through him.  There was no fancy shmancy big scene, a big stage, or any pending accolades.. this was just a teen, his guitar showing God's love to a group of kids that didnt know any of the songs.

Day to day we have alot of instances where we can show each other love by just taking some time.   It is more about just doing it vs. making a bagillion excuses as to why you cant.  Maybe its going out of your way to help somebody or maybe its just taking time and strumming a few chords and talking with kids.  I dare you to try and bless someone today with no one looking.

Be blessed wildy and abundantly,
xo wendy
