I Gotta Have Faith

“Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they launched out.  But as they sailed He fell asleep.  And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy.  And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water.  And they ceased, and there was a calm.  But He said to them, “Where is you faith?” And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!”  Luke 8:22-25

When describing my faith, I would normally tell you that I am a person of very strong faith.  I just have a sense of knowing that things will work out ok even when things look beyond grim.  In one area of my life however, I realized I had very little faith.  I didn’t see how God could possibly allow me to be delivered from horrible circumstances.  I believe it for everyone else but couldn’t for myself.  Isn’t my God powerful? Isnt my God well, God?? Why couldn’t He deliver me from something and yet deliver others?  I think it is all a matter of knowing Who’s I am.  Despite my failings, I am HIS PRINCESS first. His daughter.  The bible refers to me as a lifesaver… an ezer kenegdo-  the finishing touch on creation.  (paraphrasing from Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge)

So if I am His daughter and His princess why on earth would I ever assume that I was not worthy enough?  Do you ever do that? Do you think some good things just aren’t meant for you? That your failings are far greater than others?

I love the above verse because Jesus keeps cool while the others are all flailing around acting a fool talking about dying in the storm.  Umm.. yeah like Jesus is going to finish his story, their story with a random death in the middle of the lake. Looking from the other side of the lake we know that doesn’t make sense.  However, while in the storm it makes perfect sense because our vision, while focused only on the issue, becomes limited to just that.  If they kept their eyes on Jesus, they would have found him sleeping, completely calm.  He knew the outcome… just as He knows our outcome.  We have to have faith enough to know that despite the storm we are facing He is there… still on the throne, able to command the winds and raging water to stop at His discretion working all things to good.

Choose love and be blessed wildly,
